Old Sacramento

Woken early by the sound of earth movers making a road not far away. Went to employment centre because DB’s relative had said fruit-picking was plentiful at the moment. He was wrong.

Went downtown. Extra hot. Too hot to move. “Old Sacramento” quite realistic reconstruction. Old stores with all kinds of goodies but expensive.

DB and John dozed in a park. Rest of us went to check out walk-through fountain/water art which ran the whole length of a pedestrian street. Bought two LPs for 25¢ each. Found a restaurant in the Moneywise and had a juicy pizza there.

Returned to KOA and then all but DB went to the California State Fair. Paid $1 parking per wandered in through wrong gate and thus got in free! (saved $2). Had fun there but not quite as good as the last fair we went to for some reason. Pretty fireworks at 10pm.

Looked round craft exhibits. Astounding Chippendale quality bookcases, dining suite, dune buggies and chess sets. Perfect workmanship by kids 14 to 18. We saw a sign saying “help wanted” at the fair. John was told to return tomorrow.
